Buttock augmentation can involve fat transfer or implants. The right approach depends on your anatomy, available donor fat, goals, and an individual assessment of surgical risk.
How fat transfer differs
A Brazilian butt lift uses fat removed with liposuction from another area of the body to add volume to the buttocks. An implant-based procedure adds volume with an implant. Each approach has limitations and requires careful planning.
Safety deserves a separate conversation
Using your own fat does not make a BBL inherently safer than implant surgery. Gluteal fat grafting carries serious risks, including fatal fat embolism. ASPS and other surgical societies have issued safety guidance in response to these risks.
Questions for your consultation
Ask about the surgeon’s experience, the proposed technique, safety precautions, alternatives, and recovery. Discuss whether your health and anatomy make you a suitable candidate, and what additional procedures or care might be needed.
A plan based on you
A consultation is the place to explore options and understand their tradeoffs. No single approach is best for every patient, and results vary.
